Brothers, sorry I'm late with today's devotion. I let life get in the way, or rather I failed to divvy up my time. My apologies ...
Ever wonder why there are so many churches? Not really hard to figure out since people are in 'em, and people can seldom agree on much of anything, especially something that might involve thought!
Wrote earlier that "church" is actually everybody that believes in God and Jesus. What we have instead of a bunch of churches is a bunch of denominations. In general, the differences among them are usually minor, and it really doesn't matter which denomination a believer chooses. Yes, there are some that have sorta twisted things, or taken certain words out of context, and have somewhat different beliefs. Sometimes that matters only a little, and sometimes it can end up making that denomination being labeled a cult. The cult-thing you've gotta watch out for!
So, if "church" is all of us believers, which local gathering of 'em is "best"? Look at that with two things in mind; one, do they preach/teach God & Jesus, and two, are you comfortable being with the people of the group. After those two things, nearly everyone can adjust to any minor differences. Just don't get all hung up on them!
Watch out for any denomination or local church that says their way is the only "right" way to get saved, worship, or get right with God. Face it, none of the current denominations were around when Christ was walking down the streets of Jerusalem. To say they worship the right way, or they worship exactly as the Bible says to, is a crock. Sorry, none of us do the same things, wear the same clothes, eat the same foods, blah, blah, blah, as believers did 2000 years ago.
What's that leave us to help decide a "church" for us?
1. They go along with the idea that God is God exactly as He says He is, Jesus Christ was His Son who died for our crimes and came back to life before going up to be with His Father, and who gave us a way to get right with God. 2. The locals who are in the building are OK sorts who won't stab you in the back because you're not them. 3. The preacher doesn't put you to sleep more than 2 out of 5 Sundays! 4. The denomination does not twist meanings, and add to or take away from the major stuff of God's Word, aka Bible.
After those things, it's up to you.
What will you do for God today?
What will you do for your Brothers today?
If they ain’t the same thing, you’re lying to someone!
